Calling All Communities! [Roll Out (4/4)]

Well, I promised my next post would be when Perceptions.Live was live, so here we are! A few months later.

As with most of PRCPTION Travel’s evolution, the relationship between development and execution during the lifetime of this endeavor is an interesting one. It’s been almost two years since our first little demo and thanks to a lack of funding (not sarcasm), we were unable to execute a lot of the ideas that seemed appropriate at the time, and instead implemented others. Many such ideas have gone in & out of the cultural consciousness since then, several of which slowly dwindling out to eventually find their place as nothing but a mention in our [brand-new] documentation.

As it stands, I find myself leaning towards a very heavy simplification of the whole community media process–but hey, we’ll save that for the next post.

For now, I’d like to honor the project as it is with a few highlights of what we hope it to accomplish in 2020:

1. Claim a profile. This is to start consolidating the network of folks we’ve communed with over the years. Every person and organization featured in a PRCPTION Travel video since 2014 has a ‘shadow profile’ that we encourage you to claim (if it’s you, of course).

2. Create a community. With your own group on the Perceptions.Live platform, you can begin visualizing the story of your community on a map. You can even embed a map on your site:

This is a community map highlighting all videos that were created with footage submitted to us for editing. (You can see it live here.)

3. Upload. Yes, share your story with us! Fill out the details and upload it directly to our editors.

4. Announcements. A place where we can announce what’s new, not to mention promote the newest media and communities for all new visitors on the platform. (Hint: In future versions, this will be completely customizable for each user’s homepage.)

5. Browse Topics. For now, the only media community we have built is our own. Until more of our partners have populated their maps, the header slideshows will be filled with different topics to filter the world through.

That’s all for now! Please take a look around, make a user account if you feel like it–even start a new group. Any feedback, bug reports, and general comments are greatly appreciated as we move forward.
